The Underpants Thief.
One of my favourite hobbies is to watch movies and I tend to watch each and every movie at cinemas. Before corona came I watched every movie I came across. I would like to describe myself as a better cinema fan whom would like to watch a variety of movies. Yet would never have enjoyed the Sinhalese movies as any other since I believe the quality is lacking. What I meant is that the Sinhalese movies are lagging behind when compared with other movies all around the world in the aspect of technology, artistic value, originality etc. If I feel the standards are comparably high, I would never miss to watch that film. I strongly believe the language is not a barrier to enjoy a good movie. I'm going to tell you today about a great movie I watched.
Finally I am delighted to say that I have enjoyed a Sinhalese movie after some time. The movie "Gangi Hora" (The Underpants Thief) has exceeded my expectations. This movie depicts a social crisis currently Sri Lanka is facing of. The film is directed by Somaratne Dissanayake, a veteran director who has left an indelible mark on the Sri Lankan film industry. I really like Mr. Somaratne's films. Because every one of his films sends a message to the society. The film is produced by Renuka Balasuriya. The couple is utterly clever to address the social depreciations in the island nation in an artistic manner to touch the hearts of the peoples in Sri Lanka.
To Jangi Hora to be a success the actresses and actors have played a vital role in the movie. The artists have given their best performance ever under the guidance of Mr. Somarathne. The director himself has lined up the best artists in Sri Lanka. Lead roles were performed by the veteran actress Mrs. Dilhani Eknayake and by the popular actor Mr. Pubudu Chathuranga respectively. Mr. Buddhi Randeniya, Mr. Chinthaka Kularatne, Mr. Thumindu Dodanthenna were among the other talented artist whom have given their contribution towards this cinema. Veteran musician Rohana Weerasinghe is the music director of Jangi Hora.
The director has taken an approach to initiate a discussion in the society regarding a depressing social behavior. Mr. Somaratne has subtly themed around a wonderful story built around a young man who was persecuted by perverted sexual desires. The film depicts the various hardships that befall him and his family due to this mental problem. The film explains to society very well how to treat a person with such a mental problem and how to cure such a person. I would like to name this film as one of the most unique and successful films made in Sri Lanka in recent times. You all watch the movie. At the same time, understand the example set by the movie and live in the society.
